South East Wales Show report

So May arrived and the date for our BDS Show was getting nearer.  Time to panic. Is the field confirmed?  Have I ordered enough rosettes?  Will anybody enter.  The schedules have been out for weeks but not a lot of interest so far. Did I remember to arrange for a coffee come food stall.

Needless to say the Friday prior to our event arrived and the ring went up. It was too late to panic. If it rains it rains. Got quite a few entries, maybe more on the day.

Saturday dawned overcast but dry.  Having put the ring up the night before we only had to get the tent up and all the paperwork sorted for the girls who were going to run the secretary’s tent.

9.30 Our lovely judge Modris Kesans had arrived and there were quite a few trailers and lorries on the ground. People were collecting their numbers and it still wasn’t raining.

Class one and two combined as not that many entries. Three and four were better and the show was going well. The food people had phoned to say they were not coming as they thought it would rain and none of the sponsors had shown up to present their class rosettes. Lot of other people on the ground though and still had not rained.  The show was moving on briskly and we had a nice number of entries.

Our winners were all really pleased with their performance and Modris was proclaimed universally to be most helpful.

As our day ended at four thirty the heavens opened but only my husband and I were left on the field so we were the only ones to get a soaking.

All in all a great show with lots of family involvement and a nice turnout of juniors as well as adult competitors.

Our points champion for the day was Jane Friend’s lovely Dartmoor pony Rosie.
